We all complain about how Brock is siphoning from our bank accounts each and every day we are enrolled in classes. Tuition is high, and at the end of the day, this article will not provide the financial relief that we all, as the broke students that we are, desperately are looking for. However, I would hope that this article will shed light on some underused resources on campus. The following services or outlets all would cost a pretty penny if accessed privately outside of a university setting. As such, we are already paying for these resources through our tuition payments, so really, we all should be taking advantage of them.

  1. A-Z Learning Services

A-Z Learning Services has to be the first item on this list because of the wide array of resources it offers to students. The workshops that A-Z Learning puts on are widely under-attended, considering they provide lots of useful information, from writing, note taking, and even referencing workshops to time management skill building seminars. They are all free-of-charge and are easily accessible through ExperienceBU. A-Z Learning will also help you with your homework! They can set you up with a tutor, or even go over your assignment with you and provide some feedback.

  1. Student Health Services

At Brock, we are lucky enough to have a highly-skilled and well-trained medical team right on campus. Brock offers an urgent care walk-in clinic that provides medical certificates and any health-related treatments on the daily. It operates out of Harrison Hall in the afternoon starting at 2:45 p.m. each day, and ending at 6:50 p.m. on Mondays, 4:15 p.m. from Tuesdays to Thursdays, and 4:00 p.m. on Fridays. In the morning, the urgent care clinic is available from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Campus Pharmacy, which also fully covers a plethora of medications. Student Health Services also offers appointments with their in-house physician at Harrison Hall, as well as massage therapy.

  1. Student Wellness and Accessibility Services

There is more to being healthy than one’s physical health. The Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre is dedicated to providing a go-to resource for student in need of any kind of assistance. They run special events all the time, such as when they offered free STI testing in the fall semester, and even threw in a free meal if you partook in the event. They offer free personal counselling services in a confidential and discreet manner for all students just wanting to talk. Also, if you have suffered some type of injury or have a pre-existing condition that impedes your academics, student accessibility services can set you up with notes and a separate place to write your exam with the possibility of more time.

  1. Residence Services

This one goes out to all of you living on residence that are just trying to make it through your first-year, or the returnees that might not have seized their opportunities in their first year. At Brock, we have a team of the highest quality available at your disposal anytime. Residence Life Staff are provided with the training and resources to assist residents with whatever issue arises. Dons can be resources for much more than just residence-related issues.

  1. Student Justice Centre

This brand new state-of-the-art facility is a great resource for students in 2018. According to their website, “the Student Justice Centre is an education, advocacy, and equity hub rooted in social justice outreach and support work.” They are a safe haven that battles issues such as racism, homophobia, and sexism through workshops, campaigns, and drop-in support. They are located right next to the Scotiabank in Thistle at TH 252A. They operate from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and run drop-in hours on Mondays and Fridays from and by-appointment hours from Tuesday to Thursday.
