With flu season upon us, an increasing number of students are going to start needing convenient and accessible healthcare that fits their needs. Brock Student Health Services is located right on Brock’s campus, making it one of the most convenient places to go for medical help.
The last few years have seen some changes to the face of Student Health Services. With the recent opening of the Campus Pharmacy on the East Campus (near Avondale) and the opening of a satellite clinic location inside the Pharmacy, some things have changed in how students seek clinic appointments. In the past, all clinics were held in Harrison Hall, making it easy to figure out clinic hours and availability, as everything was in one place. Now, some students have faced confusion with the two clinic locations (both of which have different hours), as well as determining the difference between issues that need appointments and ones that are appropriate for walk-ins.

Student Health Services offers two different types of medical assistance; urgent and non-urgent care. Urgent issues are any problems that need to be dealt with within the next 24 hours. Non-urgent issues, on the other hand, are ones that require longer appointments to discuss bigger issues, as well as follow-ups with specific doctors and things like pap smears, physicals, and health exams. The main difference is that students with urgent issues can drop into the urgent care walk-in clinics without appointments, while students with non-urgent ones need to book appointments.
The walk-in hours differ between the pharmacy location and Harrison Hall. The clinic in the pharmacy is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (although the actual pharmacy itself is open much longer, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays). The urgent care clinic in Harrison Hall is open from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, closing at 4:00 p.m on Fridays.
While each location is only open for two hours or less a day, the combined available hours of both locations adds up to a lot more. It is just a matter of checking the hours for both clinics and making sure you know which location to go to at which time: the Pharmacy clinic is open for the morning times, while Harrison Hall is open in the afternoons.

These hours only cover the walk-in clinic hours. The actual Harrison Hall health services location is open much longer, being open from 8:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. For students who cannot make the walk-in hours, they can book an appointment for a different time at the clinic during these hours. The clinic also sometimes books appointments on Monday evenings.
The Campus Pharmacy also offers higher insurance coverage for students on the health plan offered through BUSU. While most locations offer 70 per cent co-insurance for generic drugs and 50 per cent for brand name drugs, students who go to the pharmacy (or who use Direct2U Prescriptions) are offered 100 per cent co-insurance for generics and 80 per cent for brand names.
To book an appointment, all students have to do is walk into Harrison Hall at any point between 8:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday and ask to book an appointment. Students can also book over the phone by calling Brock during these hours at 905-688-5550 and asking for extension 3243.
